A male hair transplant is a surgical procedure aimed at restoring hair in areas where it has thinned or fallen out, most commonly due to male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). The procedure involves taking hair follicles from areas of the scalp where hair is still growing (usually the back or sides of the head) and transplanting them into areas that are thinning or bald.
A strip of skin with hair follicles is removed from the donor area (usually the back of the scalp). The strip is then dissected into individual follicular units. These units are implanted into the balding or thinning areas. FUT tends to leave a linear scar in the donor area.
Individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a small punch tool. These follicles are then implanted into the thinning or bald spots. FUE leaves small, dot-like scars rather than a single linear one and typically has a quicker recovery time.
